COVID-19 INTROSPECTIVE RETROSPECTIVE
a virtual exhibition showcasing the work of the spring 2020 portfolio development class at RVCC
BIO: ZACH BLACKWELL
Zach is a graphic and interactive design major at RVCC and hopes to work in the field after completing his education. He primarily enjoys working in Adobe Illustrator to create vector-based artwork but even appreciates the things he’s not good at. He is looking towards transferring to CCA or Syracuse in the Fall of 2020, and will complete his BFA degree in graphic design at one of the two schools. He enjoys logo design, visual identity and branding, and anything that allows at least a little creative input.
WORK STATEMENT: "LOOMING" digital (Illustrator & Photoshop), 15 x 26.5 inches, 2020
The subject of this exhibition is focused on the COVID-19 outbreak, but the piece I created represents many emotions that I've possessed and that have been amplified since the quarantine went into effect. The title of the piece is “LOOMING” and was created in Adobe Illustrator with some elements created in Adobe Photoshop. There are two versions - an animated one and a static image. The dark nature of the picture references the “looming” threat that this outbreak has engaged us in; from personal health and that of our loved ones to the stability of our nation after the pandemic. The Penrose stairs, which lead forward and yet nowhere at all, reveal the cyclical path of a reflection that represents my own feelings as I avoid the threats just outside my home.
