COVID-19 INTROSPECTIVE RETROSPECTIVE
a virtual exhibition showcasing the work of the spring 2020 portfolio development class at RVCC
BIO: JANINE TOMSA
Janine is a fine arts major at RVCC scheduled to graduate at the end of the Spring 2020 semester. After earning her AFA degree from RVCC, she plans to transfer to Maine College of Art to complete her BFA degree. She enjoys working with pens, pencils, ink, markers and paint. Her long-term art goals are to become better at using other media and techniques such as using digital technology to create art and improve on her ability to make large scale works.
WORK STATEMENT: "UNTITLED" acrylic and watercolor on canvas, 30 x 24 inches, 2020
I made my piece for this COVID-19 themed exhibition with the mindset of “calming protection”. The pose of the two figures is an echo to one of my favorite paintings, and I felt that it fit due to the skeleton protecting me from the giant COVID 19 cell looming over us.
